Today is my 25th birthday. Here are some things (both good and not so good) that occurred on this day in history:

585 BC - A solar eclipse occurs, as predicted by Greek philosopher and scientist Thales, while Alyattes is battling Cyaxares in the Battle of the Eclipse, leading to a truce. This is one of the cardinal dates from which other dates can be calculated.

1830 - President Andrew Jackson signs The Indian Removal Act which relocates Native Americans.

May 28, 1918, the Battle of Cantigny began during World War I as American troops captured the French town from the Germans; the Americans were able to resist German counterattacks in the days that followed.

1929: On With the Show, the first talking movie that is all in color debuts at New York City's Winter Garden theater.

1930 - The Chrysler Building in New York City officially opens.

1934: The identical Dionne quintuplets are born in Ontario, Canada; the girls are made wards of the government and put on display at a themepark called Quintland. (SICK!!!!!)

In 1937, President Roosevelt pushed a button in Washington signaling that vehicular traffic could begin crossing the just-opened Golden Gate Bridge in California

1940 - World War II: Norwegian, French, Polish and British forces recapture Narvik. This is the first allied infantry victory of World War II.

1952 - Memphis Kiddie Park opens in Brooklyn, Ohio. The park's Little Dipper roller coaster would become the oldest operating steel roller coaster in North America. (This is where we went for Eric Chen's 21st bday just a few days ago ...)

1983 - Stephanie A. Macek was born

1998 Pakistan matched India with five nuclear test blasts.

2006 Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants hit his 715th home run to pass Babe Ruth on the career list and move into second place behind Hank Aaron.
